New King Solomon First Impressions
I’m not a big fan of bulky double wide sleeping bags for a couple of reason. First, they are impractical for backpacking because of size and weight. Second, the only air mattresses available are crummy inflatable mats that seem to always spring a leak in the middle
of the night. Enter the Mother of Comfort, Big Agnes. This year Big Agnes introduc
es a double wide sleeping bag that’s both light and compressible enough to put in your pack and also incorporates their award winning pad system for comfort. Filled with 600 fill goose down, the 15 degree King Solomon sleeping bag weighs 5lb 3oz or about 2lb 9oz per person. Not bad considering your partner does not have to carry a bag. Like all Big Agnes bags, there is no insulation on the bottom, only a sleeve where the sleeping pad slides in. You’ll need to use 2 pads measuring 20×72. The Big Agne Insulated Air Core Regular pad or a regular Thermarest pad will work just fine. If car camping is your love, Big Agnes released a new double bag called the Dream Island. The King Solomon is available now for $299.
